What is "OPMC" and why do you need to know about it?

 

A: OPMC is the office of professional medical conduct in the State of New York. They are directly responsible for overseeing any complaints made against a doctor or hospital in New York.

Once a complaint is generated by a patient or the patient's attorney, by law, they are obligated to investigate. OPMC will typically request copies of the doctor's records and speak to the physician about the claim. They then will perform their own investigation and reach conclusions about whether the complaint has merit.

OPMC is a division of the New York State Department of Health, and they have the ability to sanction or fine a doctor or hospital for failure to treat a patient in accordance with various rules and regulations currently existing in the state of New York.
